*** Melanie is counting on you! ***

My name is Nox and I am Head of Research at The Pentamer Institute. I am contacting you because of an urgent matter.

This is our special software for a one of a kind research. As you know, the earth is out of balance: natural disasters are becoming more and more frequent and intense.Through our research, we found cell shaped objects emitting a strange kind of energy that could be the cause of these natural disasters.

A couple of minutes ago we intercepted a distress signal of a civilian called Melanie. She is trapped in proximity of an active cell, therefore we urge you to help the civilian that got trapped on a roof near the cell and use the deactivation code to deactivate the cell. This all has to be done in 60 minutes. Hurry!

Are you up for the task!? Mankind is counting on you!

*** Escape Game The Cell ***

The software (this app) is part of an escape game called “The Cell”. A mysterious & educational quest to help a civilian in need by finding a deactivation code of a cell. It is a unique and innovative combination of a board game and escape room. The thought behind the worldwide phenomenon called escape rooms is used to creative a compelling narrative and unforgettable puzzles. It is developed as a serious game for business and medical professionals.

! To play the game you need a special physical case that has all the materials that you need for the research.

*** Background info ***

The background of this educational serious game lies in the world of cancer treatment. The world of cancer has been a struggle for years. With all the possibilities and the complexity of cancer increasing the work of medical professionals is not so simple anymore.

Challenges in decision making:

*) when doctors deal with borderline situations (no obvious medical cases, where decisions are supported by a large wealth of clinical evidence) they need to take decisions based on their experience, available therapies available at their hospital, common procedures accepted by their colleagues, etc.. All this introduce biases in their decision making process

*) The goal of the game is to make doctors realize that every decision they make has a potential intrinsic bias (this doesn’t make it a bad decision though) and it implies always a trade off (treating a patient impacts their QoL)

*) In order to take the best decision possible, it’s therefore important for the physician to be in sync with patient’s goals: to do that, physicians need to improve their communication with patients and ideally involve them in the decision making, especially in later lines where the impact of treatment on QoL is potentially higher.

Therefor the goal of “Escape Game The Cell” is to encourage good treatment behavior among professionals in the mCRC industry through game based learning.
